Interior Collection Management System

The Interior Collection Management System (ICMS) is the museum collection management system for the Department of the Interior.

Having a standard collection management system for all DOI museum collections ensures:

  • uniform record keeping
  • accountability over status, condition, and location of collections
  • data is retrievable, useable, and able to be shared
  • access and use of collections

Data about museum collections is used in many ways, including:

  • scientific study, resource stewardship, public outreach, and education
  • interaction, collaboration, consultation and partnerships with Indian tribes and partner institutions
  • responses from Congress, Office of Management and Budget, and the public
