New Snack Bar Near Completion

New snack bar under construction

Have you noticed some new construction in the main corridor on the 4th floor? That is the future home of the new snack bar that will provide additional food services for the occupants of the Main Interior Building while the cafeteria is closed for modernization. The snack bar will be open for service the middle of May and will provide a variety of healthy food choices for occupants. Watch for updates on menu selections and opening dates.

"Behind the Barriers" is on the Move

The Behind the Barriers posters that keep you informed of construction activities on each floor of the building during the modernization are being moved to new locations. In an effort to reduce the use of easels in the main corridors, the posters will be moved from the original locations of the basement and cafeteria and E and C Street entrances to the bronze Directory exhibit cases located throughout the building. Initial postings will be at the C and E Street entrances, and in the three panel glass information board just outside the gym entrance.

Insuring Occupant Safety

GSA conducted a blast mitigation assessment of the existing window systems in the Main Interior Building to determine the mitigation enhancement necessary to afford a predetermined level of protection. The assessment was conducted as a result of the Main Interior Building being identified as a Level IV Facility in the Department of Justice’s report on Vulnerability Assessment of Federal Facilities. Level Four Facilities include facilities with over 450 federal employees, more than 150,000 sq ft. and a high volume of traffic. The assessment identified window upgrade options and included studies on historic preservation, environmental aspects and energy considerations. Stop by the MPO office to see mockups.

Barriers Coming Down

temporary lighting in hallways

By now you might have noticed that the hallways in the Main Interior building appear to be larger than in the past. You are absolutely right! As the construction nears completion, the hallway barriers are being removed. Construction temporary lighting will remain in the hallways for a while longer, as will the barriers protecting the murals. But, as we get closer to the April 30 completion date, the main corridors will once again reflect the openness of the past.

What's that Noise?

As we get closer to the completion of the construction, we have had a number of complaints regarding increased noise during work hours. The good is that the construction team is now working in areas closest to the occupied space and we are nearing completion of the project. The bad is that not all work can be accomplished between 6:00 and 8:00 am in the morning. The Modernization Program Office is working with GSA and the contractors to keep the noise to a minimum and keep the project on schedule. In the mean time, we appreciate you patience!

Meetings

IAQ FORUM

The Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Forum provides a means for occupants of the Main Interior Complex to bring questions and issues of concern to the table for discussion.  The Forum has been successful in the past in resolving issues and allowing the occupants to provide input into the process.  Meetings are held monthly, on the first Monday of each month. The schedule is posted on the Modernization web page. Occupants are encouraged to contact the Modernization Program Office to report issues of concern on a daily basis.  An update of actions will be reported at the meetings.

NEXT IAQ FORUM:
April 7 Room 2529 @ 2 p.m.

TENANT USER GROUP (TUG)

The Tenant User Group Meeting is held bimonthly and provides the occupants with updated information of activities in the Main Interior Complex.

NEXT TUG MEETING:
May 22  Location: Rachel Carson Room, MIB

For more information regarding the IAQ Forums and the TUG meetings, click here.
