Modernization move
survey results are in
The Modernization Program Office (MPO) employed the services of a
move management consulting firm to assist with the logistics of reoccupying the newly renovated 5th Wing.
The MPO worked with DOI University to produce an electronic and
paper-copy survey to assess the move. A total of 135 occupants completed
the survey and submitted additional comments.
The comments on the move signaled trends of successes and
deficiencies with the transition process.
Occupants reported problems ranging from difficulties with establishing and
configuring IT connections to acquiring recycling bins.
After move completion, occupants also noted difficulty with mail routing to
new office locations.
The MPO is using these results to plan for solutions with other DOI offices to
ensure a smoother transition for the occupation for Wing 4 later this year.
The MPO will also work to ensure a faster rollout of the post-move survey
after the next move in order to gather more information and constructive feedback
from occupants in order to provide better service to occupants for the duration of
the project.

MIB Wing 4 Scheduled for Reoccupation November 2007
The Modernization Program Office (MPO) has tentatively scheduled Bureaus and Offices (see table below) to move into the modernized wing 4 of the MIB in November of 2007. The renovation includes the addition of new stairwells for safety and kitchenettes for employee convenience.
The MPO is working with Bureaus and Offices to ensure the most efficient use of available space. The table below is a high level list of organizations that will be moving into wing 4 by floor. If you believe you should be moving into this wing and can not identify your organization contact us for assistance. The MPO will keep occupants informed of changes, additions and updates through established organizational administrative contacts.

Your Renovation Team:
several players with one goal
The purpose of the modernization project is to replace the building's ageing mechanical, electrical, and
plumbing systems while upgrading the life safety systems through the creation of a stairwell in each wing. In
addition, the project seeks to respect and preserve the building's historical fabric.
When Phase III of this project concludes later this year, the project will have reached the half-way point. The
Main Interior Building was built for the Department of the Interior, and the Department continues to occupy and
operate the building. However, the building is property of the General Services Administration, and it is GSA that
solicited and currently manages congressional funds for the building's renovation.

retained Jacobs Facilties, Inc., to assist as the Construction Quality Management team. In this capacity, they
verify the quality and accuracy of completed work and construction in process, per the contract documents. GSA
has contracted Soil and Land Technologies (SaLUT) to conduct environmental testing during construction.
GSA's current project manager is John Daw Jr. He is joined by project managers Pradip Patel and R.C.
"Skip" Vaughn. The construction quality management team, from Jacobs Facilities, Inc., is led by Bob Pizzano.
He is assisted by Luther Scaife III, with the help of mechanical/electrical inspector Greg Medina, and
architectural inspector David Altieri.
The Modernization Program Office acts as a liaison between building tenants and
the project team. The MPO also manages changes to the construction program,
coordinates green building efforts, and manages the office move process as
one wing is finished and another is evacuated.
