Industrial Hygienist Joins Staff

Saundra Y. Jackson, Industrial Hygienist

The Modernization Program Office welcomes Saundra Jackson, to the staff. Ms. Jackson, an Industrial Hygienist will work to keep workers healthy and safe by investigating the workplace for health hazards and potential dangers. MS Jackson will address health and safety concerns in the Main Interior Complex.

MS. Jackson began her career at Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), where she conducted enforcement inspections at industrial and construction workplaces to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

As an Industrial Hygienist and Environmental Manager at AM-TRAK, she conducted occupational health surveys including hazardous chemical usage and releases, waste water treatment, air pollution, ergo-nomics and accident investigations.

Prior to joining the Department of the Interior, Ms. Jackson per-formed specialized occupational health surveys and supported re-search projects for the Army Research Lab and the Army Test Cen-ter at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Ms. Jackson is located in room 2505 of the Main Interior Building and can be reached at 202 219-0847.

Gymnasium Opening

DOI logo on gym floor

After a long wait, the occupants of the Main Interior Building will once again to be able to exercise and play sports in the modernized gymnasium. Skylights, a new maple floor with the DOI logo and new striping, and new basketball backboards will greet the occupants. Construction in the gym will be completed by the end of December and the gym will be officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony in January. We hope all occupants will take the opportunity to enjoy the new gymnasium.

Are You Moving?

If you are one of the groups moving in or out of the Main Inte-rior Building in April, it is a good time to start clearing out your desk, culling files, and determin-ing what furniture you will be moving and/or disposing or send-ing to surplus. Useable office sup-plies can be donated to the GREEN ROOM located in room 1660. Call 208-7560 to request recycling bins to be delivered to your hall to facilitate recycling efforts. Move Meetings

Move meetings will be scheduled on a monthly basis and more frequently as we near the move date. Next meeting is Dec. 13, 2008 in room 1352.

Furniture Exchange

In an effort to reuse and reduce materials going into the landfills and re-duce energy costs, the Modernization Program Office is interested in developing a furniture exchange program. Please contact Gay Bindocci 208-3919 to let her know if you will be disposing of any furniture.

IAQ FORUM

Starting in January 2008, the Indoor Air Quality forum will be held on a monthly basis. Please note that effective December 3, 2008 all issues and concerns regarding health and safety in the Main Interior Complex should be directed to the new Industrial Hygienist, Saundra Jackson at 219-0847 or via email at Saundra_Y_Jackson@nbc.gov.
