Interior Museum opens photography exhibition on World Heritage Sites

WASHINGTON – An exhibition of photographs by world renowned photographers entitled World Heritage Sites in the USA: A Thirtieth Anniversary Celebration will open to the public on September 19, 2008 at the Interior Museum in the U.S. Department of the Interior, 1849 C Street, NW, Washington, DC 20240.  The exhibition will be on view until January 9, 2009. 

The United States was not only the first signatory to the World Heritage Convention; it was also among the handful of nations that put forth sites for inscription as World Heritage Sites in 1978.  The Interior Museum, the National Park Service and the National Geographic Society have teamed up to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the inscription of Yellowstone and Mesa Verde National Parks on the World Heritage List by exhibiting photographs of all the World Heritage Sites which are within the boundaries of the United States.

About the Interior Museum: The Interior Museum interprets the history of the U.S. Department of the Interior and promotes the current work of the bureaus.  It is located on the first floor of the Main Interior Building at 1849 C Street, NW between 18th and 19th Streets.  The museum is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm and from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on the third Saturday of each month, except for all Federal holidays.  Entrance is free but all adults must have photo ID to enter the building.  For more information, please call 202-208-4743 or see the website www.doi.gov/interiormuseum.
