Rigs to Reef: Decommissioning oil and gas platforms into artificial reefs

Douglas Peter, Artificial Reef Coordinator for the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement will explore the process and history of “Rigs to Reef” in the Gulf of Mexico which has resulted in the successful conversion of over 500 no longer useful oil and gas platforms into enduring artificial reefs.

Building Access - All adults must present a valid, government-issued photo ID to enter the building. All visitors will be subject to security screenings, including bag and parcel checks.

Location - The Rachel Carson Room is located next to the basement cafeteria of the Stewart Lee Udall Department of the Interior Building, 1849 C Street, NW, Washington, DC 20240.
