“Help Us Paint a Picture: Illustrating the National Ocean Policy Vision”
Tuesday, July 19, 2011, 10-11:30 AM
Celebrate the National Ocean Policy’s first birthday! Help paint a picture of what the National Ocean Policy vision means to you. In this session we will explore what the National Ocean Policy is, and how the priority objectives and their implementation involve you in achieving the vision:
“An America whose stewardship ensures that the ocean, our coasts, and the Great Lakes are healthy and resilient, safe and productive, and understood and treasured so as to promote the well being, prosperity, and security of present and future generations.”
The Ocean Doctor, Dr. David E. Guggenheim, will engage you and invited representatives from local, state, regional and national perspectives into a lively interactive dialogue. Our guests bring a range of perspectives diverse in scale and scope that span the Nation. From the crashing waves and majestic redwoods of the Pacific coast to the sunny sea grass beds of Tampa Bay, from the rocky shores of Maine to the vast Mississippi River Basin, our guests have worked with local communities to bring fishermen and offshore energy developers into a marine planning process, introduced nutrient management strategies to restore and protect Florida’s largest open water estuary, managed water resources and civil works in the third largest river basin in the world, and worked with rural communities and tribes to advance local sustainable transportation, climate, aquaculture and health policies. Add your voice to theirs; come share your perspectives and insights! This exchange will be facilitated and captured by a visual recorder who will literally illustrate our thoughts and collective vision. Together we’ll create a lasting image, for the conference to share, as we describe our goals for the future of our oceans, coasts, and Great Lakes.
