The Winds of Change are coming!

We kick off CZ11 with a tribute to the Great Lakes’ cultural and natural resource history in a session called Restoring the Sweetwater Seas, followed by the Plenary, Winds of Change: Charting the Future of Our Oceans and Great Lakes". John Podesta, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress, will moderate and engage our Nation’s leaders in a candid roundtable discussion focused on identifying key challenges and new approaches in coastal, ocean and Great Lakes management for the future.

Choose a focus session: “Illustrating the National Ocean Policy Vision” or “Making Gulf Prosperity Gumbo” where you can engage in interactive conversations with our distinguished panelists and the audience. Hear from William Ruckelshaus and Norman Mineta of the Joint Ocean Commission Initiative as they share insights from their latest report, in a special session called “Keeping an Eye on US Ocean Policy”.

Our closing plenary will leave you with ideas to consider now for our future, “Innovation and Adaptation to a Changing Coastal Climate”.

In addition to these sessions, throughout the week there will be more than 180 technical sessions including café conversations and poster sessions. We will have two luncheons with distinguished speakers, award ceremonies, workshops, training programs and field trips. Altogether, the conference guarantees robust discussions and rich opportunities to network, explore and interact. With a wide array of coastal and ocean topics that are changing our coastal communities and our estuarine, marine, and Great Lakes environments, this meeting will help us all address recurring problems and explore new approaches to ocean and coastal resource management.

At Coastal Zone 2011, you will:

  • Learn more about and share your thoughts on our National Ocean Policy
