The Interior Business Center has a wide variety of occupations and jobs, allowing for broad opportunities to utilize your competencies and skills. We have approximately 1000 employees and employ over 30 different occupations. Even within these occupations, there can be a wide variety of duties performed. The Interior Business Center really offers an opportunity for almost everyone! Some of our more common job occupations are listed below. The general occupation is identified with common position titles and the 3 or 4 digit occupational series code. This code is useful when searching for positions on our job search section.

With such a diverse scope of service offerings, the Interior Business Center has career opportunities spanning a number of occupations. Common Position Titles:
  • Accountant
  • Systems Accountant

Accountants are critical to our ability to provide our clients with quality accounting operations, financial management systems, and payroll support. Our accountants apply accounting theories, concepts, principles and standards to the financial activities of the Interior Business Center and our client agencies. Accountant positions are primarily located in our Financial Management Directorate with additional positions in our Human Resources Directorate.

Accounting Technician

Occupational Series: 525
Common Position Title: Accounting Technician

Accounting Technicians work directly with our accountants to support the accounting activities that we perform on behalf of our client agencies. They must have a basic understanding of accounting systems, policies, and procedures in order to examine, verify, and maintain accounts and accounting data. Our Accounting Technicians are primarily located in our Financial Management Directorate with additional positions in our Human Resources Directorate.

Administration and Program Support

Occupational Series Code: 301
Common Position Titles:

  • Client Conversion Specialist
  • Drug Program Specialist
  • Functional Systems Analyst
  • Performance Support Specialist
  • Personnel Systems Analyst
  • Program Specialist
  • Program Support Specialist
  • Project Manager

As you can see from the wide variety of position titles, this occupation covers all kinds of positions. The 301 occupational series is used to identify positions which are comprised of administrative and program work of a general nature. These positions require analytical ability, judgment, discretion, and knowledge of administrative or program principles, concepts, policies, and objectives. If you are not sure in what kind of position your experience and expertise could be used, this is an excellent occupation to start your search. The vacancy announcements will provide you with a clearer understanding of the duties so that you can determine if it is the right opportunity for you to consider. These positions span the Interior Business Center and are organizationally located in most of our Directorates.

Business and Industry

Common Position Titles:

  • Business Specialist
  • Policy Analyst
  • Procurement Systems Analyst

These positions provide program support to programs involving business and trade practices in support of our contracting function and our products and services. These positions are primarily in our Acquisitions Services Directorate and Financial Management Directorate.

Civilian Pay

Occupational Series: 544
Common Position Title: Civilian Pay Clerk/Technician

Our Civilian Pay Clerks and Technicians are located in our Payroll Operations Division, in the Human Resources Directorate. These positions are located in Denver, CO and are responsible for determining pay, maintaining payroll records, and disposition of time and leave records. They make sure our employees and our client's employees get paid timely and accurately.


Occupational Series: 1102
Common Position Title: Contract Specialist

The Interior Business Center's Contract Specialists are located in our Acquisitions Services Directorate. They perform work to procure supplies and services using formal advertising or negotiation procedures; evaluate contract price proposals; and administer or terminate and close out contracts. In short, they help the Interior Business Center and our client agencies procure the products and services they need to carry out their missions.

Financial Administration and Program

Occupational Series Code: 501
Common Position Titles:

  • Benefits Specialist
  • Financial Specialist
  • Financial Systems Analyst
  • Fiscal Services Specialist
  • Payroll Program Specialist
  • Payroll Systems Analyst

These positions have one common theme – they perform work of a fiscal, financial management, accounting, or budgetary nature. These positions are primarily in two of our largest organizations, our Human Resources Directorate where our Payroll Operations Division ensures that federal employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner, and our Financial Management Directorate, which provides customers with an array of financial services and systems support.

Financial Clerical and Technical Support

Occupational Series Code: 503
Common Position Titles:

  • Benefits Assistant/Technician
  • Billings and Collection Technician
  • Payroll Program Technician
These positions work hand-in-hand with our specialists and analysts in the 501 Financial Administration and Program positions to provide payroll, benefits, and billing support to our clients. These positions perform clerical and technician work in support of accounting, budgeting, and financial management functions. They are primarily located in our Human Resources Directorate.

Human Resources Management

Occupational Series Code: 201
Common Position Title:

  • Human Resources Specialist

Our human resources professionals manage and administer human resources management products and services. Our staff provides support in the recruitment of individuals such as you. We also evaluate and classify positions, administer compensation systems, provide guidance on benefits, design and develop programs to develop employees and manage learning, provide employee relations and labor relations support, and work with human resources information systems. We provide human resources support both internally to the Interior Business Center as well as to external agency clients. Our human resources staff are part of our Human Resources Directorate.

Information Technology Management

Occupational Series Code: 2210
Common Position Title: Information Technology Specialist

Information Technology (IT) Specialists are represented throughout our Financial Management and Human Resources Directorates. IT Specialists are responsible for administering, developing, delivering, and supporting IBC's IT systems and services.

Management and Program Analysis

Occupational Series Code: 343
Common Position Titles:

  • Management Analyst
  • Program Analyst

These positions serve as analysts and advisors to management on the evaluation of the effectiveness of Interior Business Center programs and operations or the productivity and efficiency of our management activities. These positions require a strong understanding of agency programs and activities, management principles and processes, and analytical and evaluative methods and techniques. These positions are available throughout the Interior Business Center Directorates.

Program Management

Occupational Series Code: 340
Common Position Titles:

  • Assistant Director
  • Program Manager

These positions manage or direct, or assist in a line capacity in the management or direction of one or more programs. These positions emphasize the employee's management and executive knowledge and ability. If you have strong experience in managing programs, this may be where you want to start your search. These positions span the Interior Business Center.
