Student Opportunities

STEP

The STEP program provides employment to students on a temporary basis. Opportunities may range from summer jobs to positions that can last for as long as you are a student. These opportunities do not need to be related to your academic field of study. They provide you with an opportunity to gain work experience and earn money while attending school.

SCEP

The SCEP program provides for work-study partnerships between students, the educational institutions, and the Interior Business Center. The SCEP program provides you with relevant job experience to enrich your education and it provides us with an opportunity to develop our future workforce. Unlike the STEP program, the CSEP position to which you are appointed must be related to your academic field of study. The SCEP can give you a "jump start" in your chosen career field and after completion of all applicable academic and work requirements, you may be eligible for permanent employment.

To be eligible for a STEP or SCEP appointment, you must be:

  • Enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree student (diploma, certificate, associates, bachelors, etc.) in an accredited institution;
  • At least the minimum age required by federal, state or local laws (some state laws require persons under the age of 18 to obtain a work permit before being employed);
  • Taking at least half-time academic, vocational, or technical course load in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school; and U.S. citizen or national.
