Shared Services Outsourcing Network Recognizes Interior’s Shared Service Provider
For second year in a row, the U.S. Department of the Interior's shared service provider, Interior Business Center (IBC), is honored by the Shared Services Outsourcing Network (SSON). During the 18th annual Shared Services Outsourcing Network (SSON) conference that took place in March 2014, in Orlando, Florida, the five-member judging panel unanimously decided on the SSON Excellence Awards for North America winners and runners up. The 2014 Awards acknowledged nominations in five categories: People & Communication, Value Creation, Culture Creation, Customer Service, and Improvement & Innovation.
IBC’s nomination was recognized as runner up in the People & Communication category. IBC Director Joe Ward accepted the award on behalf of DOI’s shared service provider. In 2013, IBC took runner up in two of the five core competencies: Excellence in Customer Service and Excellence in Culture Creation.
The SSON recognition validates the improvements in the way IBC manages its talent and communications and how it positively impacts the organization. IBC Director Joe Ward emphasized that, “IBC focuses on employee engagement and uses communication as a learning tool to implement strategies for helping employees connect to the strategic framework.” According to Joe Ward, “IBC’s senior leadership placed an emphasis on the dual objectives of engaging employees in the process of developing and cascading a new strategic focus for IBC and taking care of employees so they can take care of the mission.”
Hundreds of public and private sector professionals attend the annual SSON Awards ceremonies held during Shared Services & Outsourcing conferences around the world. Events are held in North America, Europe, Australasia, Asia, Latin America, Germany (for German-speaking European countries), India and China.
From the SSON awards program: “SSON's annual Shared Services Excellence Awards represents achievement on the highest level for shared services operations around the globe. The Excellence Awards are presented at our flagship regional events across the world and cover operations right around the globe. But no matter where they are held, SSON's Awards honor, recognize and promote shared services (captive and outsourced) that demonstrate leading practices. These Awards form the industry's benchmark in terms of best practice and process excellence and provide an opportunity for shared services and outsourcing professionals to gain recognition for their achievements and their initiative. Winning an Award is an honor that past recipients have been proud to broadcast to their clients, as well as their organization-at-large.”
