The IT Liaison Role at IBC
Dan is the Interior Business Center's new IT Liaison, as of March 24, 2014. As IT Liaison, Dan functions as a bridge between what IBC needs and what technology services deliver. He is our strategic business advisor and will play a key role in helping the enterprise prepare for successful and meaningful growth. IT project managers provide the technical expertise and Dan assists in communicating and facilitating a clear course for delivery to meet our customers’ needs.
An IT Liaison coordinates with IT services along three fundamental factors:
- Is it the solution or service we asked for –- and needed
- Is it provided at a reasonable cost with defined service level agreements
- Is it delivered and maintained on time
As IT Liaison, Dan brings
- IT skills and experience to understand the technology
- Project management skills to interpret timelines and delivery dates
- Communication and negotiation skills to help business and technology speak the same language
- Business skills to look for opportunities to integrate systems so that they share data to enhance our understanding of how well the business is providing for its customers
Combining technology and user requirements within a specified budget and timeline is a mix of art and science. The health and status of the portfolio of IT services is part of capital planning and investment control and the portfolio is briefed to the Senior Leadership Team on a continuous basis.
Future of IT at IBC
Dan insists that credit goes to those to whom it is most due: The project managers and information technology folks know they are the ones doing the valued work. As he says, “I'm just an added resource in their corner trying to assist in their success.”
