The Interior Business Center (IBC) has been reaching out to its acquisition customers and contracting officer representatives (CORs) to provide references, training, and resources to enable them to better understand their roles in the acquisitions process. IBC’s Acquisition Services Directorate (AQD) provides acquisitions services in a shared service environment.
IBC’s acquisition staff recognized that many customers were struggling with their roles in the acquisition process. Therefore, to improve service to customers and ensure a seamless acquisition process, IBC has implemented several opportunities for customers to increase their knowledge of the acquisitions process.
One way IBC’s Acquisition staff does this is by sending a monthly email to customers entitled “Acquisition Tips and Tools”. This resource provides information on topics impacting customers in the acquisition process. Recent topics included Contractor Performance Assessment Reporting System (CPARS) compliance, contract payments (invoicing), justifications and approvals; just to name a few.
A second way IBC is working to educate customers on acquisitions topics is by hosting biannual town hall meetings. These meetings include a panel discussion on a variety of acquisition topics. The meetings are held at the main interior building in Washington, D.C., and all Department of the Interior customers are invited as well as external customers when the topic aligns with their needs. IBC will host the next acquisition town hall meeting on March 13, 2014. The event will focus on acquisitions planning but the panel will entertain a wide variety of questions from the audience.
Another resource IBC offers customers is through a partnership with IBC’s Human Resources Directorate (HRD) on the topic of contractor security and onboarding. At least once a year, IBC hosts training sessions in Denver, Colo., and in the Washington, D.C., metro area. These sessions cover the CORs roles and responsibilities in the onboarding and exit process for the contractor workforce.
