Suggested Ground Rules
- Start promptly; be punctual
- Respect other’s opinions
- Full sharing of information; openness
- Facilitation of discussion; allow people to finish thoughts
- Allow everyone to contribute/speak
- One speaker at a time; do not interrupt
- Allow clarification
- Attack the issue, not the person
- Ask for clarification; no such thing as a stupid question
- OK to revisit issues
- OK to table issues with minimal discussion for later revisit
- Commitment on a final document
- Decision by consensus without feeling any important idea has been
compromised
- Offer option if consensus cannot be reached
- Check for closure
- Honesty should be part of the meeting
- Pay attention (active listening)
- Adequate breaks should be taken
- No cheap shots
- No name calling
