| An employee must serve a probation period before
initial assignment as either a supervisor or manager becomes final. It applies when
assigned to their first supervisory or managerial position. Length of the probation period
is normally one year. After selection, employee is notified of the requirement to successfully complete a probation period. Second level supervisors/managers should provide guidance and training on supervisory and managerial skills and techniques and monitor performance. It is recommended that periodic performance discussions are accomplished and documented. The Personnel Office must be notified as soon as it becomes clear that the employee lacks the necessary aptitude or skill required in the position. If the employee does not satisfactorily complete the probation, he/she has a right to be returned to a nonsupervisory or nonmanagerial position of no lower grade and pay than the previous nonsupervisory position held. Prior to the end of the probation period you will be asked to certify the successful completion of the employee's probation period. This certification is retained in the employee's Official Personnel Folder maintained in the personnel Office. |
