In order to protect the DOI financial interest, and to ensure only deserving claimants are paid, the Servicing Personnel Office (SPO) has the right to appeal any State determination of benefit rights if it appears to be based on information contrary to the findings reported by the SPO, or if it is based on improper inferences from those findings.

If an employee is terminated for cause or voluntarily resigns, a supervisor may be asked to provide written documentation for contesting the claim. The supervisor may even be asked to attend an appeal hearing when your participation is necessary to protect the organization's interest.
