Personnel and Position Actions

 

 

 

 
An essential part of personnel administration is processing of personnel and position actions. The prime responsibility for making decisions with respect to rests with the supervisor. Supervisors initiate all personnel actions affecting employees under their supervision. Exceptions are those originated by the Personnel Office, such as step increases and automatic conversions, and those actions initiated by the employee, such as name changes, resignations, and requests for leave-without-pay (LWOP).

The Standard Form 52, Request for Personnel Action, is the document used to request personnel and/or position actions.  In DOI, this form has been automated and is a component of the Federal Personnel  and Payroll System (FPPS).

Typical Personnel Actions (these actions pertain only to individuals):
  • RECRUITMENT/FILL

  • REMOVAL

  • LEAVE WITHOUT PAY

  • PROMOTION

  • TERMINATION

  • RETURN TO DUTY

  • CHANGE TO LOWER GRADE

  • RETIREMENT

  • DETAIL

  • REASSIGNMENT

  • DEATH

  • NAME CHANGE

  • RESIGNATION

  • REDUCTION IN FORCE

  • POSITION ESTABLISHMENT

  • POSITION REVIEW

  • POSITION CANCELLATION
