Mr. Steven Holland, Reclamation Research Facility Achieves 53% Energy Reduction, Brackish Groundwater National Desalinization Research Facility, Bureau of Reclamation, New Mexico - In FY 2012, the Bureau of Reclamation's Brackish Groundwater National Desalination Research Facility (BGNDRF) in Alamogordo, New Mexico, reduced its energy intensity by 290,880 kilowatt hours (kWh), or 53.6 percent. The capital cost for the improvements totaled approximately $784.00. more

Mr. Brent Means, Acid Mine Drainage Treatment, Office of Surface Mining, Pennsylvania - Utilizing Office of Surface Mining software and his knowledge and expertise, Mr. Brent Means has developed an analysis regime that cuts treatment cost in half while boosting the removal of targeted populates and results in a reduction of waste sludge. more

Ms. Rene Ohms, One Person at a Small Park Can Make a Big Difference, Jewel Cave National Monument, National Park Service, South Dakota - Because of Ms. Ohms' efforts, Jewel Cave National Monument was the first park to complete a modified environmental management system (MEMS) and a Climate Friendly Parks Plan, in order to attain CFP status. more

Ms. Jennifer T. Wilson, Going Green Touches Everyone at the Texas Water Science Center, U.S. Geological Survey, Texas - Ms. Jennifer Wilson is a champion of green practices and an agent of change for the USGS Texas Water Science Center. more

Kalaupapa National Historical Park Green Team, National Park Service, Hawaii - The Green Team at Kalaupapa National Historical Park developed and implemented a solid waste management program that has set the solid waste management standard for the State of Hawai'i. more

Neosho National Fish Hatchery Visitor Center, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Missouri - The Neosho National Fish Hatchery Visitor Center is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold-rated.  Energy conservation measures used throughout the building combine to yield energy performance at least 34 percent better than an average building. more

New Model for Spawning, Incubation, and Nursery Operations, Dworshak National Fish Hatchery, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Idaho - Dworshak National Fish Hatchery staff identified and implemented infrastructure improvements and operational flexibility, which allowed the Hatchery to save on average of 8,621,000 kWh per year in FY 2011 and FY 2012, when compared to FY 2010. more

San Luis National Wildlife Refuge Complex Headquarters and Visitor Center, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California - The Headquarters and Visitor Center at the San Luis National Wildlife Refuge Complex, California, is a new, high-performance, net-zero energy, 16,500 square-foot building.  It is the first U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service building to earn a LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. more

Slow the Flow Campaign, Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Massachusetts - Parker River National Wildlife Refuge improves water quality in the surrounding watershed through a "Slow the Flow" campaign, which involves the local community in workshops on sustainable landscaping techniques, a Rain Barrel Making Workshop and a grant program. more
