The FEB's Role in Emergency Preparedness

The Interagency Emergency Preparedness Council communicates security information specific to Minnesota Federal agencies to all agencies. The FEB Interagency Emergency Preparedness Council is a forum comprised of civilian, military and law enforcement Federal agencies and determines interagency policy for emergency preparedness among Minnesota Federal agencies. The Minnesota Federal Executive Board serves 120 Federal government agencies in over 330 independent locations. Some of the agencies the FEB works with are the FBI, Minnesota Department of Transportation, Minnesota Department of Health, American Red Cross, Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD), Association of Minnesota Emergency Managers (AMEM), and the Metropolitan Emergency Managers Association (MEMA).

The Federal Executive Board of Minnesota is designated by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to communicate emergency messages and closure notices to the Federal workforce in the state. The Federal Military, Postal Service and other civilian agencies have over 35,000 employees from 120 agencies in more than 200 locations statewide. The FEB plays an important role in OPM’s continuity of government plans to coordinate information among all Minnesota Federal agencies in the event of a man made or natural disaster to the National Capitol Area. The FEB’s website serves as a critical resource to all Federal government agencies to obtain consolidated information on a wide variety of Homeland Security information and training resources. The FEB weekly broadcasts email notifications of information from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to all agencies. The office annually sponsors 4-6 Intergovernmental Homeland Security briefings/training program.

The FEB facilitates and holds quarterly bureau meetings of the new Department of Homeland Security for the Minnesota sector/region. The office coordinates on a weekly basis Homeland Security preparedness issues with State and Local Homeland Security agencies including: Minnesota Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management; Minnesota Department of Public Safety; Metropolitan Emergency Managers Association; Association of Minnesota Emergency Managers. The office uses email and website to communicate this information to all Federal agencies in Minnesota.
