Staff from the Bureau of Land Management's Fisheries program in the Washington, D.C., Office recently teamed up with volunteers and staff with FishingCommunity.Org to host the Third Annual Lake of the Woods Wounded Heroes Fishing Tournament near Fredericksburg, Va.

The private lake community located about two hours south of Washington, D.C., opened its gates to the “boutique lake tournament” on Sept. 13.

The bass tournament is free to any wounded or injured veteran from any era and their families, who get an opportunity to fish with the pros.

Residents of the lake community helped to organize the tournament, which was supported by local businesses and non-profit groups. The BLM was on hand to serve the community and promote aquatic resource awareness, use and stewardship.
