Subject: National Police Week – Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Ceremony, May 13, 2015

The Department of the Interior joins the Nation in observing National Police Week, May 10-16, 2015. National Police Week is a time to recognize all law enforcement officers nationwide who serve our communities and a time to honor those officers who have died in the line of duty. We also remember the families of the fallen officers. The 2015 national theme is Honoring Courage, Saluting Sacrifice. Many events are scheduled around our Nation's Capital during the week to honor our Nation's fallen law enforcement heroes.

On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at 1 p.m., we will host a law enforcement officer memorial ceremony in DAR Constitution Hall, located at 1776 D Street N.W., Washington, D.C. 20006. The ceremony is a time for us to give thanks to the 4,000 permanent and seasonal law enforcement officers who serve in the Department and to pay special tribute to the 139 Department of the Interior officers who have died in the line of duty since the Department's founding in 1849.

The memorial ceremony will feature the honor guard from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In addition, the United States Marine Band and a Native American drum group, the Black Bear Singers, will be performing. I encourage those of you in the Washington, D.C., area to attend the ceremony on May 13, 2015, to help honor those individuals who protect our treasured landscapes, visitors, employees and fellow citizens.
