Subject: National Disability Employment Awareness Month – October 2014

The Department of the Interior joins the Nation in observing National Disability Employment Awareness Month, October 1-31, 2014. The U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy, designated the 2014 theme, "Expect. Employ. Empower." National Disability Employment Awareness Month is a nationwide campaign that raises awareness about disability employment issues and honors the many diverse contributions of America's workers with disabilities.

The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management are sponsoring training for employees in the Washington, D.C., area in observance of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. For more information about the training, contact the servicing Equal Opportunity Employment office.

Employees outside the Washington, D.C., area may contact their servicing EEO offices or check their bureau websites for information about activities being held in their local area.

DOI managers, supervisors and employees are encouraged to participate in activities in observance of National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Attendance requires supervisory approval.
