Subject: Mobile Mammography Van on October 22, 2014

The George Washington University Hospital's Mammovan is coming to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) at 1900 E Street, N.W., onWednesday, October 22, 2014. All DOI employees and contractors are invited to schedule an appointment.

The van will be located on the Virginia Avenue side of OPM on that date.

Eligible women (see criteria below) must call the mobile mammography program directly at (202) 741-3252 to schedule an appointment. You must make your appointment byWednesday, October 8, 2014, so please take advantage of this opportunity as soon as possible. Unfortunately, walk-in customers cannot be accommodated. Appointments will be set up between 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

When you call to set up your appointment, have your insurance card and your physician's name and phone number available. The staff will answer any questions you may have and will guide you through your insurance company's requirements. The company will direct-bill most health insurance companies and will bill you later for any applicable co-payments. Women with disabilities can be accommodated, just let the mammovan staff know of your requirements when you schedule the appointment.

You are eligible if you:

  • Are age 40 and over -- or your mother/sister has had breast cancer
  • Are not currently nursing an infant
  • Do not have breast implants
  • Have not had a mammogram in the past 12 months
  • Have not experienced breast symptoms such as a lump or breast pain
  • Have not been treated previously for breast cancer
  • Have a primary care physician (MD necessary)

The GW mobile mammography program has provided approximately 2,300 mammograms annually for insured and uninsured women in the Washington, D.C., area. The program is accredited by the American College of Radiology, is certified by the FDA to perform mammograms, and meets all the requirements of the Mammography Quality Standards Act .
