Subject: Security and Emergency Preparedness Expo

To help citizens, communities and organizations recognize the need to prepare for all types of emergencies, President Obama has declared September to be "National Preparedness Month." In addition to preparedness information you may be provided by local emergency management agencies, we are pleased extend an invitation for you to attend a “Security and Emergency Preparedness Expo,” which will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, in front of the Office of Personnel Management's E Street courtyard.

Emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility and takes a commitment from everyone – individuals, families and government. Come and learn what you can do to prepare yourself and your family. Preparing for emergencies includes being self-reliant for three days without utilities such as electricity or water, and without access to local stores for food.

The Expo will feature booths and materials from the American Red Cross, FEMA, Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management, Montgomery County Office of Emergency, U.S. Park Police, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Air Force, area businesses and will provide information for you to enhance your personal and family preparedness. For further information, please contact David VanderWeele, Office of Emergency Management, 202-208-5778, or your Bureau/Office Emergency Coordinator.
