Memo (2022): 2022 Exceptions to the General Time Limits for Temporary Employment - Limited Approval for Fire Positions

Staffing

On July 6, 2022, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) approved the Department's request for an exception to the general time limits for temporary appointments needed in response to wildland fires.  This approval is effective June 10, 2022, and can be applied for one year to positions and locations specified in the request.  Employees appointed into temporary seasonal positions (e.g., working less than 1,040 hours in a service year) may instead receive an exception to the general time limitations if they work no more than 1,730 hours, within the service year.
