NW CSC Co-sponsors Pacific Northwest Climate Science Conference
The Northwest Climate Science Center (NW CSC) is co-sponsoring the 3rd Annual Pacific Northwest Climate Science Conference in Boise, Idaho, October 1-2, 2012. The conference provides a forum for researchers, resource managers, and policy-makers to exchange scientific results and management and adaptation strategies for the region. Past conferences were held in Portland, Oregon, in 2010 and Seattle, Washington, in 2011. NW CSC Director Gustavo Bisbal and Research Coordinator Nicole DeCrappeo will give a presentation on October 1 entitled, "The Northwest Climate Science Center: coordinating climate science and evaluating resource conservation efforts in the Pacific Northwest," explaining the NW CSC's mission, goals, and science agenda. The NW CSC's sponsorship will be used to support travel and conference participation for 17 students from Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, which aligns with the center's objective to promote career development, encourage broad participation, and support education for young scientists in the region. The concept of offering training and education services for graduate students and post-doctoral researchers is one of five foundational objectives described in the NW CSC’s Strategic Plan 2012-2015 released in January 2012. NW CSC PI’s Steve Daley-Laursen and Philip Mote served on the planning committees for the conference.
