Marijke van Heeswijk

Marijke van Heeswijk is the Tribal Liaison and Communications Coordinator of the Northwest Climate Science Center (NW CSC) and Chief of the Watersheds and Ecology Section of the USGS Washington Water Science Center (WAWSC). For the NW CSC, Marijke facilitates public outreach and information exchange between the NW CSC, federal and university scientists, and federal, state, and tribal natural- and cultural-resource managers.

Marijke has more than 22 years of experience with the USGS, and has conducted research in watershed, groundwater, and snowmelt modeling. At the WAWSC, she leads a team of scientists and engineers who conduct a wide variety of hydrological research. Marijke had a leading role in the development of an interdisciplinary research plan for nearshore Puget Sound, coordinated USGS tribal programs as interim USGS Tribal Liaison, and co-managed biological and hydrological research as interim Deputy Director of the USGS Southwest Biological Science Center. 

Marijke holds a B.S. degree in Geology from Ohio State University and an M.S. degree in Marine Geophysics from Oregon State University.
