Ergonomics

Implementing workstation ergonomic practices will assist in maintaining high levels of productivity, increase employee satisfaction and help to reduce costly work place injuries. Ergonomics includes a holistic view of the work area, including lighting, seating, equipment positioning, and the relationship between workstation environment, job tasks and human capabilities.

The Department of Defense Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP) also offers a great resource guide, Workplace Ergonomics Reference Guide. The guide provides illustrations of proper workstation ergonomics, a checklist for implementation of ergonomic strategies, tips for prevention of repetitive stress injuries and links to other information resources.

You may view a video showing the importance of ergonomically correct work environments, along with other Assistive Technology Videos on the CAP training materials site.
